Deep Bed Filtration Board

A deep-bed filtration system is employed to purify metal before the casting process, achieving filtration efficiencies exceeding 90 percent. These systems are commonly utilized in slab rolling, ingot, and continuous sheet casting operations. Typically situated between the holding furnace and the casting process, the system features an outer steel shell lined with refractory material, which houses grid plates and layers of alumina balls. The alumina balls serve as the primary filtering medium in deep-bed filtration systems, and their size, shape, packing arrangement, and depth can be adjusted to meet specific filtration requirements. Owing to its exceptional filtration efficiency, the deep-bed filter is frequently implemented in processes that demand stringent product quality, such as can end stock and lithographic sheets.

the bed's design, combined with its distinctive heating system, allows this type of filter to deliver exceptional metallurgical quality and superior filtration efficiency, even for fine particles. This filter effectively satisfies the stringent standards required for high-end products, including beverage cans and lithographic sheets, as well as for aerospace applications.

In this filtration system, liquid metal passes through various layers of precisely calibrated alumina balls and grits, which effectively trap a wide range of particles, including the tiniest ones. The efficiency can reach over 95% for particles larger than 10 microns with the special designed equipment. Although the efficiency diminishes as particle size decreases, it consistently outperforms other technologies across all particle sizes, as illustrated in the comparative graph below.
