High-density calcium silicate boards, owing to their unique physical and chemical properties, serve not only as insulation but are also widely utilized as crucial support and structural components within industrial kilns. Their excellent high-temperature resistance, high strength, dimensional stability, and easy machinability make them an ideal alternative to traditional metal or heavy refractory materials, especially in kiln designs aiming to reduce furnace weight, improve energy efficiency, and extend lifespan.
1. Furnace Doors & Lining Supports:
o Application: In furnace doors of various industrial kilns (e.g., heat treatment furnaces, forging furnaces, ceramic kilns), high-density calcium silicate boards are often machined into lightweight door linings or serve as supporting structures for the door frame. They also act as backup support boards for lightweight refractory bricks or ceramic fiber modules within the kiln lining system, providing structural stability.
o Advantages: Their high strength and dimensional stability ensure the furnace door remains warp-free at high temperatures, maintaining excellent sealing and reducing heat loss. As lining supports, they effectively bear the weight of upper refractory materials while providing additional insulation, extending lining life.
2. Kiln Car Decks & Sidewalls:
o Application: In kiln-car-type industrial furnaces like tunnel kilns and shuttle kilns, high-density calcium silicate boards are preferred for making kiln car decks and sidewalls. These kiln cars frequently enter and exit high-temperature zones and carry substantial loads of workpieces.
o Advantages: The superior thermal shock stability of high-density calcium silicate boards allows them to withstand rapid temperature changes without cracking. Their high strength ensures the kiln car deck remains stable under heavy loads. Excellent insulation minimizes heat loss from the bottom of the kiln car, enhancing energy utilization. Their light weight also contributes to reduced kiln car driving energy consumption.
3. Kiln Furniture / Spacers & Partitions:
o Application: In kilns for ceramic firing, glass annealing, etc., high-density calcium silicate boards can be machined into various shapes of setters, supports, and partition plates. These are used to support products during firing or to create different temperature zones within the kiln.
o Advantages: The material's high purity ensures no contamination of the products. Precise dimensional stability guarantees the flatness of fired goods. Its strength reliably supports workpiece weight, and its insulating properties contribute to temperature uniformity or zonal control within the kiln.
4. Induction Furnace Coil Supports:
o Application: In medium-frequency induction furnaces, high-density calcium silicate boards are used as insulation and support materials for the induction coils.
o Advantages: The material's non-conductive nature, high-temperature resistance, and mechanical strength make it an ideal electrical insulator and structural support, capable of withstanding high temperatures and mechanical stresses during coil operation.
High-density calcium silicate boards, when used as support and structural components in kilns, not only provide the necessary mechanical strength and dimensional stability but also offer excellent insulation and energy-saving benefits. This results in lighter, more efficient, and more durable kilns, ultimately reducing maintenance costs and operational energy consumption.
