Promat's range of materials, including Monolux®, Duratec®, and Monalite®, are all high-performance asbestos-free calcium silicate boards. They're widely used for high-temperature insulation, fire protection, and in industrial furnaces. While they share excellent fire resistance and thermal insulation properties, they differ significantly in density, maximum service temperature, mechanical strength, and specific applications.
Promat Monolux® Series
The MONOLUX® series is designed to provide medium-density, high-temperature thermal insulation and structural support.
Promat MONOLUX® 800
Features:
Maximum Service Temperature: Typically 800°C (classification temperature up to 1000°C).
Density: Medium density, around 950 kg/m³.
Mechanical Strength: Good flexural strength (e.g., approximately 6.5 MPa), maintaining strength at high temperatures.
Thermal Shrinkage: Extremely low thermal shrinkage at high temperatures, ensuring dimensional stability.
Machinability: Easy to machine.
Fire Performance: A1 non-combustible material, offering up to 240 minutes of fire protection.
Applications:
Single-layer insulation for industrial furnaces, ovens, and dryers.
Rigid thermal insulation for presses.
Structural insulation requiring high thermal and/or mechanical loads.
Promat Duratec® Series
The DURATEC® series comprises "technical ceramic" calcium silicate materials, known for their high density, exceptional mechanical strength, and electrical insulation properties.
Promat DURATEC® 750
Features:
Maximum Service Temperature: Typically 1000°C.
Density: High density, around 1400 kg/m³.
Mechanical Strength: Extremely high, with flexural strength up to 23 MPa and compressive strength up to 55 MPa. Notably, its strength is maintained or even improves at high temperatures.
Electrical Properties: Excellent electrical insulation, high arc resistance, high surface and volume resistivity, and high resistance to tracking.
Machinability: Can be precisely machined.
Thermal Shock Resistance: Capable of withstanding thermal cycling without cracking or breaking.
Applications:
Component supports in the furnace industry.
Structural insulation in metal forming applications.
Electrical insulation components (e.g., arc shields in switchgear).
High-strength thermal and electrical separators.
Promat DURATEC® 1000
Features:
Maximum Service Temperature: Typically 1000°C.
Density: High density, also typically around 1400 kg/m³.
Mechanical Strength: While not as extreme as DURATEC® 750 (flexural strength around 16 MPa, compressive strength around 31 MPa), it still maintains excellent strength at high temperatures.
Thermal Shrinkage: Noted for extremely low thermal shrinkage, ensuring outstanding dimensional stability in high-temperature environments.
Electrical Properties: Also possesses good electrical insulation characteristics.
Machinability: Easy to precisely machine.
Applications:
High-temperature structural applications requiring extreme dimensional stability.
Electrical and thermal insulation components.
Internal structures and supports within furnaces.
Promat Monalite® Series
The MONALITE® series consists of high-density calcium silicate boards specifically designed for aluminum casting and molten metal contact applications. They exhibit excellent non-wetting properties and thermal shock resistance.
Promat MONALITE® M1
Features:
Maximum Service Temperature: Typically withstands peak temperatures up to 1000°C.
Density: High density, typically between 850-970 kg/m³.
Non-Wetting: Not wetted by liquid non-ferrous metals (especially aluminum), which is crucial in molten metal contact applications.
Dimensional Stability: Good dimensional stability, low shrinkage.
Wear Resistance: Offers some wear resistance.
Machinability: Can be well machined.
Thermal Shock Resistance: High resistance to thermal shock.
Applications:
Aluminum casting and furnace industries, such as launders, spouts, floats, and baffles.
Header boxes in continuous casting.
Sprue bushes, tubes, nozzles, and feeder box linings in low-pressure die casting.
Promat MONALITE® M1-A
Features:
Maximum Service Temperature: Typically 850°C.
Density: Higher density, approximately 961 kg/m³.
Characteristics similar to MONALITE® M1, but often considered a variant of M1, potentially optimized for specific performance aspects or cost.
Like M1, it particularly emphasizes the property of not being wetted by molten non-ferrous metals.
Applications:
Similar to MONALITE® M1, primarily used in aluminum casting, furnaces, and industries involving contact with molten non-ferrous metals.
